THE NUMBER OF THE MARK
Word for mark in Hebrew is TAV, which was rendered as an X . This X is the Greek CHI
Six Hundred Three score and Six (Rev. 13:18)
Strong s Concordane #5516 Chi Xi Stigma, khee xee stigma; 22nd, 14th and obsolete letter (4742 as a cross) of the Greek alphabet (intermediate between the 5th and 6th letters) used as numbers, denoting respectively 600, 60 and 6.
The three Greek letters are like an acrostic. Words that start with each of these letters gives us a clue.
Represented by the letters CHI XI STIGMA, which is 666. Now each letter represents a word.
Chi, in Greek is the first letter of Christos anointed, Messias (Christ). X was used to represent the Christ and Christianity prior to the introduction of the cross by Constantine in 325 ad. So, X generally meant Christ in the early times.
Stigma (Strong s #4742) from a prime stizo (to stick or prick); a mark incised or punched (for recognition or ownership) i.e. (figurative) a scar of service; a mark.
See also Strong s #4743 stigme, point of time, instant
Think of a sharp jab where one is wounded by the sword that kills spiritually (mind, deception, mark of beast in forehead)
Xi Strong s #3578
Look at #3586 for Xulon which means tree or cross (the asherah, see Companion Bible Appendix 42)
This word Xulon is the word that Peter used when they talked of the cross. See Acts 10:39, Acts 5:30, Gal. 3:13, 1Peter 2:24.
Christ refered to as the Tree of Life in Rev. 2:7 is this same word Xulon
So using each letter to represent a word (like an acrostic) you get:
Christ (on) tree/cross pierced.
A crucifix!
Note: I also find it interesting in light of the 'new' papal staff used since Vatican 2, which is a BENT CROSS! www.cuttingedge.org/news/n1034.html#nosmileys#nosmileys
